About
Welcome to Kleinen Wiese German Shepherds.
Our Kennel name is Kleinen Wiese which is German for Little Meadow. We have a small farm in Montgomery County Pennsylvania, Little Meadow Sheep Farm, where we raise tending German Shepherd Dogs and registered Border Leicester Sheep. Our interest is to preserve the natural herding ability of German Shepherds. We use our dogs to handle stock on our farm, both for barn chores and also for tending in an open meadow across the road. In 2005 we had our first litter of puppies and we are very excited at the level of herding instinct that they have shown. Successive litters have also excelled in Agility, Tracking and Schutzhund. The dogs have a strong interest in work and eagerly look for opportunities to work with their handler.
Our foundation bitch is Hera von Fafnerhaus who was breed by Ellen Nickelsberg. (Please visit Ellen’s excellent web site for more information onGerman Shepherd Herding.) Hera’s father Alf von Fafnerhaus is from Manfred Heyne’s line of German National Championship (Bundesleistungshüten) winners. Hera’s mother, Ussa vom Kuchenthal, HGH, earned her herding title in Germany.
For our first litter we breed to Diesel vom Schulmeister, SchH1, AD, BH, son of V Siggo von Haus Antverpa, SchH3, IP3, Kkl 1. Diesel’s mother is Reba vom Marinik, HGH, who earned her herding title by winning the 1998 HGH trial in NJ with a grade of “SG”. We had two breedings with Hera and Diesel that produced excellent results. The progeny are active in herding, Schutzhund, SAR, tracking, agility, and of course, family companions.
“Dog breeding must be done by a dog-lover and cannot be a profession. The work of breeding service dogs must be the work of dog-lovers, (such as) the Shepherd with sheep breeds as a dog lover, for they have the desire to breed for exemplery, efficient and useful dogs.”
- Max von Stephanitz.
