Giggle Ball Mania

Delta loves Giggle Balls too!

Delta loves Giggle Balls too!

One thing that is for sure is my dogs just love “Giggle” balls.  These balls are heavy duty and are practically indestructile for GSD’s – which is good for us.  The only thing that can be annoying is their squeak.  Our dogs love them – the louder, the better!  Even little Delta has taken on a new love for these balls.  They even float in our pond, so you can throw them in the water and the dogs have a blast running in and retrieving them.

Aiko and Arla both are giggle ball hogs, so when Delta gets one, it seems to be her lucky day.  Delta loves to play with the big dogs and loves the challenge of trying to get the big dog’s toy.  We bought little Dela a nice stuffed toy and that lasted about two days – the stuffing was pulled out, the squeaker was ripped out and it was just piles of stuffing all over – we’ll no more stuffed toys for them.   These guys really do love their toys and whatever they can find to play with.

It’s no wonder my garden is not what it used to be – - when you have puppy teeth testing out the flowers!  UG!  When we had all nine pups on the ground, my flowers didn’t have a chance – I guess there is always next year!

Here is an extremely rare scene at our house – Delta with two giggle balls.  The big doggies just happened to be sleeping and so she collected a few for herself while she had the chance.  It’s a good thing her jaws can’t get around these big giggle balls yet – for if they squeaked, the other giggle ball hounds in the house would soon be awake and rob her of these fine treasures!

If you want to get your dog a fun toy – these big rubber balls are great – but be ready for the noise of the squeaker.  When we first got these toys, my husband broke all the squeakers on purpose since our dogs would just mouth them and make them squeak, and squeak and squeak!   It’s really not a great sound when your trying to watch a show on TV, but it’s not bad outside in the backyard!

Delta von der Kleinen Wiese

Delta von der Kleinen Wiese

Delta is proving to be a very intelligent puppy and loves to learn new things just like her mamma!  She also loves, loves playing with balls and any other toys she can get her mouth on.   Even though all the dogs in the pack are in competition for their toys at times, it’s nice to see they can all relax and enjoy a treat.   Today I bought them some nice knuckle bones and it was so good to see they could all have their bone and hang out together as a happy bunch.

Soon Delta will be attending puppy kindergarten and we can’t wait to take her to meet new friends.  She’ll be going to class with her brother Dakota “known as Max now”.  They are going to have so much fun and also learn some clicker training too.  We will be posting on her progress as she attends her first formal classes!  I think she is going to really enjoy it and have lots of fun meeting lots of different puppies.  My son is looking forward to training her and would love to do some agility with her in the future.

Kleinen Wiese’s Newest Addition – Delta

We are so pleased to have little Delta from our most current “D” litter.  She is out of our very own Arla von der Kleinen Wiese and Hawk vom Eichenluft.  She is just a beautiful gal with lots of spirit and get up and go!  She is also showing us she loves to work.  My son has started Delta tracking since she was 7 1/2 weeks old and she is doing fantastic and loves the work.  She shows us that strong desire to work and when she does, she is calm and focused.   She is now 12 weeks old already – hard to believe.

My youngest son, Will, selected Delta as his new puppy to teach tracking, obedience and even wants to try her in agility.  She is so eager to please and loves to learn new things; my son is really enjoying her.  I can tell she is going to be that same type of high drive dog her mother is and will be lots of fun to train.

We are hoping Delta will grow up to show us the same things we look for in all our dogs, strong work ethic, willingness to please, biddability, intelligence and solid temperament.

If Delta develops as we would love her to, she will hopefully be the start of our next generation.  Keep an eye on this girl – she is full of zip.

Over the next year, we’ll be watching over the ”D” litter to see how they come along.  I am very excited because over 1/2 of this litter went to homes where they will be in some type of dog sport/work environment.  I know these dogs will be family members and have very full lives.

Some of our Boys – All Grown Up!

AIKO VON DER KLEINEN WIESE (OFA GOOD/ELBOWS CLEAR)

From our first litter to our third litter, we have bred consistently strong working dogs.  They are showing solid temperaments, genetic obedience, wonderful biddability and talent.  Two of the boys which I want to talk about are our very own Aiko von der Kleinen Wiese (Hera X Diesel) and a dog from our previous litter, Caden von der Kleinen Wiese (Hera X Diesel).

Aiko lives here with us at Little Meadow Sheep Farm and we are so proud of this boy.  He is a dog that can do it all.  His temperament is rock solid, his work ethic exemplifies everything we breed for, he is obedient, friendly, loyal, and talented.  This dog loves to work, but he definitely has the on and off switch.

Aiko loves obedience and does it with such a flair because he enjoys everything he does.  He loves to track and really is such a joy to take out because he is so dedicated and so willing to do whatever I ask of this boy.

The other thing that makes Aiko special to us is his natural ability to herd our sheep like his mother and grandfather before him.  These genetics are so strong in our lines and you just can see it come through in our pups.  This was our hope when we first bred Aiko’s dam, Hera v. Fafnerhaus, daughter to Alf v. Fafnerhaus.  He is an asset to us and also such a loyal, dedicated companion.  The thing I love about this boy is his enthusiasm and his initiative to work – he doesn’t need commands to work the border when working our sheep.  He also will check the pasture over once he has brought the sheep in.  He started doing this all by himself without us ever telling him.

It is just amazing to watch this dog as he is handler sensitive, but yet confident and able to handle the pressure of moving sheep and disciplining them when needed.  Aiko is invaluable to us and he is my best, and most loyal friend!

CADEN VON DER KLEINEN WIESE (19 Months old)

Another boy we are proud of is Caden von der Kleinen Wiese.  He was from our “C” litter.  Caden lives in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada with a gal who is bringing out Caden’s true potential.  Donna has seen that this dog is truly versatile and can do it all.  He has been exposed to sheep and has shown good control over stock, he is tracking and doing a super job, and now he is training in  schutzhund at the Calgary Schutzhund Club under the direction of Dan Waters!

Caden is still a young dog at 19 months old and he is working on his obedience and just now started some protection work and he is loving it.  He has a full grip and enjoys the work.  I know Donna is so proud of her boy and we are too.

We expect to see great things from this boy!  He is a dog that can do it all and do it well.  I hope in the future as people see the potential that are dogs have that we will have more working homes to put these dogs into.  They truly have such a will to work!

For more on what Caden is doing, see Donna Brinkworth’s blog – Spiritdance Tracking and Herding.

“D” Litter – Pups in homes around the country!

Arla von der Kleinen Wiese X Hawk vom Eichenluft

I am pleased to say all pups have been placed in super, super homes.  We had many people on our waiting list waiting for over a year to get one of our pups and seems everyone is very pleased with their new pups.  It is so comforting knowing every single pup got a wonderful home!  Thank you everyone!

We have a pup in North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, New Jersey, West Virginia, and several placed in Pennslyvania close to our home.  I think this litter produced pups that can all work and have alot of potential.

The pups from this litter will be involved in obedience, schutzhund, agility, herding, tracking, and also therapy work.  I am so proud to have our pups involved in so many different activities.  Our dogs tend to be high drive and possess a strong desire to work and please.  It will be exciting to see in the months and years ahead how these pups develop and what they achieve.  We were fortunate enough to get homes that were all very experienced with German Shepherds and I think they will really be able to raise these pups to their fullest potential.

Delta von der Kleinen Wiese - She will be here at Little Meadow Sheep Farm. She is an amazing pup who shows a very strong desire to work.

We are not sure when we’ll be breeding again in the future, as we usually only breed when we want dogs back from our own genetics or we have requests for pups.  We are very selective about our homes and we also take alot of time finding dogs that will “nick” together well with our lines to make the best possible combination.  We look for structure, workability, health, intelligence, biddability, versatility and certainly temperament is so important.

I can rest easy now knowing they are all comfortable in their new homes and they will be loved and well taken care of!

Pictures later of all pups in their new homes.  They really turned out to be such a beautiful litter!  Thank you Arla and Hawk!
