Snow and Christmas – they just go together!

Delta von der Kleinen Wiese

Over the past few days we have had a cold spell and even our first snow and the dogs are loving it.  Playing in the snow is some fun, especially for our little Delta.  She loves to play ball and will do anything for a ball.  Here she is doing a “platz” for her ball.  There is no treat on the face of the earth that is better than her giggle ball!

I can’t believe that Thanksgiving has come and past and now we are getting ready for Christmas!  We set up a little Christmas tree in the house this year on a table since we have 5 dogs who like to romp through the house.  Our littlest dog likes to remove ornaments and carry them around.  Namely our little Delta – she is quite the devil at times.  She seems to know that if she carries something of ours around and shows it to us, that we will then give her much attention – how these dogs train us!

Delta posing nicely by the tree!  Luckily no ornaments to steal yet!

I think I actually caught her in the chair before she starting checking out the tree.   She is such a curious dog – has to check everything out and just thinks the world revolves around her!  She is so hard to resist as she is so darn cute and lovable!

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

Delta with her ball – she loves to play, doesn’t matter if it’s raining, snowing or blazing hot!

Anyone for a game of fetch!

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year to give thanks for all that we have.  We are so lucky to have a wonderful family, good friends, wonderful doggies, good health, and happiness.  We feel fortunate in these hard times to still have a roof over our head, food on the table, and wonderful children to spend our lives with.  We also have our dogs who are a big part of who we are and what we enjoy.   We are truly blessed to have such wonderful things in our life.

Time to play with the doggies in the snow!

Today is really the start of Winter for me.  It is always the time that I start putting logs in the wood burning stove to heat up the old farm house and a time that we all love to take our dogs for long walks out in the pasture so we can play ball with them and let them romp around.  Today was a surprise, as we our having our first snow.  How exciting!

Aiko enjoying the snow!

The snow is really coming down pretty heavy, but it is not too cold outside to be staying around long.  It is a beautiful sight to behold though when your looking out the window.  The sheep don’t quite know what to make of the snow, so they are still hanging out in the barn.  Meanwhile the dogs are having a blast running around in it.  They love this cool weather!

Last of the pumpkins for the sheep!

Our sheep have been enjoying fresh pumpkins everyday since Halloween.  Our neighbor is a hay farmer and he always gives us his remaining pumpkins from his patch to feed our sheep.  We are so thankful to have such wonderful neighbors and friends.  There is nothing better than having farmers for neighbors.  They are always sharing their harvest and always there to help you when you need it.  We have made such terrific friends here at the farm.

May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

If you can’t find a ball, a pumpkin will do!

Delta von der Kleinen Wiese

Every year we get a load of pumpkins dropped off at our farm for our sheep once Halloween has passed.    My dogs find this a great time of year to play outside with new toys that they can find outside.  This year, pumpkins seem to be their object of interest.  The pumpkins are fun to carry around and the dogs can eat them too.  Since my dogs are on a raw diet and they get pumpkin in their food from time to time, they have found that these new toys are very appealing.  Not only are they fun to carry around and play with, but they also provide a healthy snack.

Pumpkins are very versatile – you can carry them, eat them, and play with them.

Aiko snacking on a little pumpkin after playing with it.

I keep the large pumpkins for my sheep to eat as they love them too.  This morning I found that my two big decorative pumpkins displayed at my front door are now missing.  Apparently during the night hours when my dogs were outside, they found these large pumpkins a challenge to play with and break apart!  I found the remains this mornings – so the sheep will get those!  Not a thing wasted at the farm!
