Aiko is a litter mate to Arla.  He is also working the boundary with our sheep and doing very well.  He is a male and a bit more intense.  He is always right where the pressure is and covers the whole flock when working the boundary.  We expect great things from this boy.  (Hera v. Fafnerhaus X Diesel v. Schulmeister)

Arla – Working the Sheep

Posted By on May 19, 2009

Arla loves to work our sheep.  She is a wonderful worker who is calm and very focused when working.  She is a bit exuberant right now because we are just starting to take the whole flock out to graze with new lambs who don’t know the rules yet.  It’s always fun to watch the older adult sheep who know to stay in a certain area, but the lambs must learn too.  It’s the job of the dog to teach them where they can go and where they can’t go.  The sheep and lambs soon learn to respect the authority of the dog.

Arla needs very little verbal commands from me to work.   It’s so quiet and peaceful to watch these dogs work on their own.  No motivation is needed.

Kleinen Wiese – “D” Litter – June 2009

Posted By on May 16, 2009

This June we will be expecting our fourth litter of puppies here at Little Meadow Sheep Farm.  The dam of this litter is Arla von der Kleinen Wiese and the sire is Hawk v. Eichenluft (Vom Rokanhaus German Shepherds).   Arla had her ultrasound today and she is pregnant!  Hurray!

She should have puppies towards the middle of June and we are very excited about this litter.  My son is hoping to keep a puppy for Search and Rescue work and of course, it will have to be a dog that will work the sheep too!

We are very excited to have had the opportunity to breed our Arla to Hawk.  Sincere thanks to Kandi and Hawk!   I can’t thank Kandi and Hawk enough for all their help!  We’ll keep you posted!

See the puppies!
